Low Speed Vehicles - LSVs or Neighborhood Electric Vehicles or NEV is a vehicle that is capable of traveling at a maximum speed of 40Km/h. They come with all required safety features like headlights, turn signals and seat belts. LSVs can provide 80% of peoples driving needs and could be considered a great 2nd. Car option. To keep down costs, a NEV are usually equipped with conventional lead-acid batteries, giving it a range of about 30 miles. Prices range from around $6000 to more than $14,000.

In the US 45 States have approved the use of the LSV's in their roads - in Canada only B.C.

Akasol is an association in Germany that has been designing and building this car for many years. It has passed German crash-testing. Akasol has designed the basic car and drive system, and is looking for partners to produce the car The Oscar chassis is made from aluminium. The battery is under the floor; the induction motor, reduction gear, differential, electronics and cooling systems are in the front. The custom electronics incorporates the motor controller, battery management system and battery charger. One version of Oscar has a NiMH battery. The latest version has a SAFT lithium ion battery.
